A football (soccer) quiz with friends works best when everyone gets the same questions and there's a table at the end. GeoFootballer gives you three ways to do that: a duel link after the daily round, a group with daily and all-time tables, or taking turns on one phone. Every question asks the same thing: where did it happen? You drop a pin on the map, and whoever is closer scores more. Playing on your own? Start the football quiz on the home page.
GeoFootballer is a daily football quiz on a map: five football moments a day, drop a pin where it happened, score by distance. Free in the browser, on iPhone and Android. Play now.

Three ways to play against your mates
| Way | How many | What you play | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duel link | you and everyone you send it to | the same daily round as you | free, no account |
| Group | your regular crew | the daily round every day, plus competitions | joining is free, setting one up needs Pro |
| Play together | 2 on one phone (up to 4 with Pro) | take turns, each places a secret pin | free for two |

Duel: challenge your mates by link
Once you've finished the daily round, tap "Challenge your mates" and send the link on WhatsApp. Your friends see your score and play the same five questions. The highest score wins; if it's level, the fewer total kilometres decides. No account and no Pro needed. When you share your result, each question only shows up as a coloured dot, so you never give the answers away.
Groups: your regular crew, your club or your office
A group is your own league table. One of you sets it up with Pro and shares the link, and everyone else joins for free. Each day the table shows who has played the daily round and how they scored, plus an all-time table since you joined. You can react to each other's results with one of five symbols.
It works for your mates from the pub, your five-a-side team or the office: play on the train in the morning and see where you stand by lunchtime. With Pro you can set up as many as 10 groups. Any member with Pro can start a competition with its own category and end date; without Pro, the first 3 members who joined can play in it for free. A group can have up to 100 members.
Play together on one phone
Sitting on the sofa together? One phone is enough. For each question, you take turns placing your own pin in secret, then pass the phone on. The reveal shows every pin in its own colour, and at the end there's a table with a winner. It's free for two; with Pro, up to four of you can play.
Try it: five sample football quiz questions
These five clues are written the way GeoFootballer asks its questions. Read each one, think about where on the map you would put your pin, then check the answers below.
- A record final. In 2012 Spain won the European Championship final 4–0 against Italy, the biggest winning margin in a Euros final. In which city was it played?
- A Manchester United winger. Where was George Best born?
- A surprise champion. In 2015/16 this club finished top of England's highest league for the first time in its history. In which city does it play?
- An East German first. The only club from the former GDR ever to win a European trophy plays in this city. Which one?
- The man behind 1954. Where was Sepp Herberger born, the coach of West Germany's 1954 World Cup winners?
Answers
| # | Answer | The story |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kyiv, Olympic Stadium | Spain became the first team to defend the European Championship title. |
| 2 | Belfast | Best was born there on 22 May 1946 and was spotted by a Manchester United scout at 15. |
| 3 | Leicester, King Power Stadium | Leicester City were confirmed as Premier League champions on 2 May 2016. |
| 4 | Magdeburg | 1. FC Magdeburg beat AC Milan 2–0 in the 1974 European Cup Winners' Cup final. |
| 5 | Mannheim | Herberger was born on 28 March 1897 in the Waldhof district of Mannheim. |
If you got the country right but the city wrong, you would still have scored. On a question set in one country, a pin 34 km away still earns 75 points; 102 km away is worth 50. Questions across Europe or the whole world are scored more generously, because the distances are bigger.
Play these as a group: everyone writes down their city before you check the answers.
How the GeoFootballer quiz works
| Step | What you do | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Read the clue | A short description of a football moment, for example a last-minute winner or a player's birthplace | The map opens over the country or region in question |
| 2. Drop your pin | Tap where you think it happened; the map shows countries, borders and big rivers, but no city names | You can move the pin until you lock it in |
| 3. Lock it in | Confirm your guess | You see the distance and your points, up to 100 per question |
| 4. Full time | After five questions | Your score is final, along with your position among everyone who played that day |
The later questions count for more: question three is doubled, questions four and five are tripled, so a perfect day is worth 1,000 points. A new daily round kicks off at midnight German time, which is 11pm in the UK. Alongside it there is a free timed round with five different questions and 30 seconds for each.
FAQ
Can I play this football quiz with friends for free?
Yes. Duel links, joining a group and "Play together" for two are free. You only need Pro to set up a group or to play with three or four people on one phone.
Do my friends need an account?
No. Without an account, progress lives in the browser. With a free account, it follows you between phone and computer.
Does everyone get the same questions?
Yes. The daily round is the same for everyone on the same day. New questions come out at midnight German time, which is 11pm in the UK.
Does it work for a club or an office?
Yes. A group has a daily table and an all-time table, and anyone new only needs the link.
How are points calculated?
By the straight-line distance between your pin and the right spot, up to 100 points per question. Question three counts double and questions four and five count triple, for a daily maximum of 1,000 points.
